Crown and Bridge

Crowns - When a single tooth fractures or has a large filling that is breaking down, we may recommend a crown to restore the tooth. Crowns can be made from many materials. The most natural looking is porcelain. New porcelain called “emax” has incredible strength and holds up very well in the mouth. Unlike gold and other metal restorations, porcelain can be chemically bonded to teeth to improve retention. Gold crowns are the ideal restoration for people who grind or clench their teeth but are often used only on back teeth due to their appearance.

Bridges – prior to implants, bridges were the primary way to replace a missing tooth. This was accomplished by removing the outside portion of the adjacent teeth and replacing it with three teeth fused together. Extra time should be built into your daily routine to maintain the health of the teeth supporting your bridge.
